Funerals
Funerals
The loss of family and friends is a narrow place through which we must all pass. Rabbi Nicole and the NSTE family are here to help and support you in this time of grief. In Jewish tradition, mourning progresses from intense mourning immediately following the death to less intense mourning which culminates in the consecration of a grave stone a year later. Although there is great wisdom in this tradition, everyone experiences grief differently, so never fear if you're not "on schedule," and please let Rabbi know if you'd like personal counseling.
Rabbi Nicole will help you bury your loved one with meaning and dignity. To this end she'll will meet with you, listen to your memories and understand your wishes and those of your loved one. Rabbi will guide you through a thoughtful and meaningful funeral service (followed in the evening by a shiva minyan at your home, for those who choose).
On the Shabbat following the funeral, we invite you and your family to gather with us at synagogue to recite Kaddish and to accept the condolences of the community.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our synagogue stands, the land of the Gamaragal people. Many of us and our forebears have come from other lands and found our spirit of kinship with Indigenous Australians whose connection with this land preceded ours, and we recognise that connection as sacred and enduring. May we walk together toward a future of justice and healing.
