Youth & Family Programs

Our Playgroup, Pre-school, and Young Family programs create a bridge from birth all the way through formal Jewish education.  Last year, over 100 children under the age of eight, representing 56 families, attended events for young families.  Of these young families, more than 60% are non-members, helping NSTE engage those in the Jewish community who are not yet affiliated with our synagogue.  These events also engage parents and teenage volunteers, who give their time to assist the Rabbis, help execute the program, and help with child minding.

NSTE recognises that young children (those under b'nei-mitzvah age) hold a key to the future of our community. With this in mind, a task force was established to directly engage with this group to understand whether members' expectations are being met, what the barriers are for non-members, and generally what young families need from our community. The outcome from these sessions has presented the task force with numerous opportunities to increase the engagement of families with young children by creating programs and initiatives that are relevant to them.

One action out of this task force was the creation of the Community Families Club; a group dedicated to creating a robust and engaged community of North Shore Jewish families with kids (babies through to 13 years of age).
