North Shore Temple Emanuel
a Progressive Jewish Congregation
Our Jewish sense of identity starts from a young age, and North Shore Temple Emanuel’s Shabbat Playgroup aims to create those strong foundations early on in life.
Taking place on Fridays from 9.30am to 11.30am during school term, the Playgroup has a critical role in fostering connections for young families on the north (including grandparents and carers) with its weekly activities. The program keeps up with the Jewish themes throughout the year with music, craft, and entertainment, along with ‘guest leaders’ from time to time.
In the past, the group has been entertained by shadow puppets, a clown entertainer, and musicians to learn about Purim, celebrated Pesach with music and chocolate Matzah, enjoyed a Teddy Bears’ Picnic for Shavuot, and raised funds for the Cancer Council by hosting an event for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea - plus more!
“The weekly rituals of Shabbat and baking most weeks means that the children feel comfortable and thrive with the routine," says Shabbat Playgroup coordinator, Natalie Choo. "An example of this is watching one of our three-year-olds plaiting his own dough after seeing it done weekly!”
The group also makes frequent visits to the Apples and Honey Preschool on campus.
New members are always welcome. First session is free.
