Boomers Film Group

Dead Poet's Society

Set in 1959, the film features Robin Williams as an unconventional English teacher at a conservative  boys' boarding school in Vermont USA.  Here we see Robin Williams in one of his best roles as the charismatic teacher who inspires his students to a “love of poetry” - a process which eventually leads them to overcome their reluctance to make changes in their lives. He encourages his students to "make your lives extraordinary", a sentiment he summarises with the Latin expression "carpe diem!"  meaning "seize the day!"

Educator and former Deputy Principal of Chatswood High School, Bob Selinger, will be our guest. He will comment on the movie and answer questions from the audience.
